WINDOWS GETTING-STARTED GUIDE

How to play Pokemon Gamma Early Access

Go from the downloaded zip to your first steps in Hoenn with a clear guide to controls, saving, current progression, and common startup issues.

BEFORE YOU START

Set up the Windows build correctly

Pokemon Gamma is a standalone Windows game. It does not need a GBA ROM or emulator.

  • Download the current archive only from the developer's official Itch page.
  • Extract every file to a normal writable folder before launching the executable.
  • Let first-run shader compilation finish, even if the initial launch takes several minutes.

CURRENT PROGRESSION

Know where Early Access currently ends

The playable story currently travels from Littleroot Town through Mauville City. Later main-story areas are still in development.

Three gyms are available

Current progression covers the Stone, Knuckle, and Dynamo Badge arcs. Trainer rematches become useful after the available story content.

Save often and keep a backup

Early Access builds can still crash or change between releases. Save regularly and back up your save before replacing an older game folder.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Fix the most common first-run problems

Start with these low-risk checks before assuming that the game files are broken.

The first launch looks stuck

Wait for shader compilation to finish. The first run is expected to take longer than later launches.

The game does not open

Confirm the zip is fully extracted, launch from that folder, update GPU drivers, and keep at least 5 GB free.

Routes or battles hitch

Lower-memory systems and slower storage can pause briefly while areas or battle events load.

Input prompts keep changing

Restart the game with your preferred controller already connected and avoid switching input methods repeatedly.
